Okay, I'm going to risk the wrath of the Spurge and share the Godzilla trailer, simply because I'm so frigging excited, and hey, I love monster movies. And you know, a huge part of what made me excited for Godzilla again is James Stokoe's masterpiece of a mini-series, Godzilla: the Half Century War- more of which tomorrow. The new Godzilla movie is directed by Gareth Edwards- he of Monsters, or the alien octopus sex movie, as I like to call it. I have a feeling we won't be seeing a great deal of Godzilla until the third act- lots of smoke and mirrors. It looks like it's going to be a more, serious, realistic take, but I hope Edwards doesn't go the Snyder route and manages to retain the essence of what it is: a monster movie. That said, my favourite thing here is you really get a sense of how gargantuan Godzilla is- a MONSTER, you know? For atmosphere, I still think the Robert Oppenheimer voiced-over teaser is brilliant and prefer that- you can find it here (it won't let me embed that for some reason- may take a few seconds to buffer but do wait- it's worth it.)
Godzilla releases in cinemas on May 16th next year.
