Last September I was writing about the Spanish and French releases of the new, fifth volume of Blacksad, and pondering a possible English language publication date, and now my friends- triumphant, exciting news: we have one! The lovely people at Dark Horse have given Blacksad: Amarillo an on sale date of 21st October 2014. Whip out your diaries and pencil- no, pen- that in. Amarillo will be published in large hardback format as per the previous Blacksad releases. Look, I'm not in the habit of replicating overly gushy press releases that want you to get hyped about said product, but heck, Blacksad deserves it (also- story synopsis):
'Hardboiled feline detective John Blacksad is back in the latest tour de force from the multiple-award winning duo of writer Juan Díaz Canales and artist Juanjo Guarnido! Taking a much-needed break after the events of A Silent Hell, Blacksad lands a side job driving a rich Texan’s prized yellow Cadillac Eldorado across 1950s America, hitting the back roads from New Orleans to Tulsa. But before long, the car is stolen and Blacksad finds himself mixed up in another murder, with roughneck bikers, a shifty lawyer, one down-and-out Beat generation writer, and some sinister circus folk! When John Blacksad goes on the road, trouble is dead ahead!'
Also, if you're like me and have been gazing longingly at the pages of Amarillo online, you'll note the 'look' of the art in this volume looks distinctly different. Still good, though, still good. Towards that purpose, and because I'm a pervert for Juanjo Guarnido's art, pulled some of the French pages below for you to pore over. On a related aside, I'm starting to become a sucker for well-drawn vehicles in comics- been studying Tintin, and now these cars and motorbikes.
This has been a public service announcement. I thank you.
